- Femi Falana has called for the release of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe

- The human rights activist also urged that the DSS should arraign the Senator

Renowned human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana, has called on the federal government and the Department of State Services (DSS) to either grant bail to Enyinnanya Abaribe or arraign him in court.

Falana said the DSS should grant the Senator representing Abia north bail if the agency is yet to complete its investigation.

Speaking on Sunday, June 24, Falana called on President Muhammadu Buhari to direct all security agencies in the country to respect the fundamental rights of every citizen.

He said as he charged the human rights community to be prepared “to halt fascism which has continued to rear its ugly head in the land.”

Falana said the federal government must stop such impunity and respect the human rights of every person living in Nigeria under the rule of law.

He said the arrest and detention of criminal suspects and law-abiding people without court orders had continued unabated.

Falana said: “The Department of State Services has said that Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe is being detained on account of his links with the Indigenous People of Biafra.

“It is common knowledge that the Senator had stood surety for Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB," Falana said.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that Abaribe was whisked away by operatives of the DSS on Friday, June 22.
