Just in: Oyegun backs out of APC national chairmanship race

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, has withdrawn from the party's chairmanship race, The Cable reports.

NAIJ.com gathered that Oyegun on Friday, June 1, while speaking with journalists in Abuja said he will not seek re-election as national chairman of the ruling party.

Oyegun said: “I do not intend to be part of the problem for APC to solve. It is for this reason that I hereby declare that I will not be seeking reelection as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.”

“However, I will continue to perform my functions as the national chairman of the party till my tenure officially ends on Monday the 25th June when a new set of party executives will be inaugurated.”

NAIJ.com previously reported that the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, shelved his ambition to run for the position again after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, April 26.

Sources said the APC governors had already informed the Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee (NWC) on the plan of President Buhari to support the national chairmanship ambition of a former governor of Edo state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, at a meeting held at the party secretariat last Wednesday, April 25.
