So, what is a genital test? From where did the need for checking the intimate health of future newly-married couples come? Are the problems of young people’s impotence and reproductive function very acute today?

The church in the person of the Assistant General Overseer of the RCCG (Admin & Personnel), Pastor J.F. Odesola, explains the necessity of passing such test by a large number of complaints after marriage. Hopes for the matrimonial duty and children’s conceiving are in vain.
In many cases, it’s found that one of the spouses knew about the problem before marriage, but deceived the partner. Many girls, like zealous Christians, avoid intimate relationships before marriage and get married clean. Eventually, they learn about the spouse’s problem later.
Besides, the church is negative about divorce, and the couple often remains married having a mostly unsolved problem. It negatively affects the relationship and marriage as a whole. Priests are concerned about this state of affairs, and therefore oblige young people to take genital test before wedding.

The position of the church is as follows. You can tie up with a person who has problems of an intimate origin or reproductive function, but you should not know about it after the marriage is completed. Knowing the truth, you can accept a person with this problem and confide in God with the hope that it will be resolved or refuse marriage.
The church insists that those who marry must know the truth about each other and don’t start a family life with lies. So the issues of intimate and reproductive function are vitally important, and they cannot be ignored.
Another important point: the check should be taken by both spouses. It must be male and female genital test. In Nigerian society, a stereotype emerged that if a couple does not have children, then it’s a woman’s fault and problem. But recent studies in this area show that in most cases, the man the man is the one with the reproductive problem.
Currently, women undergo pregnancy test before the wedding to exclude fraud in the relationship. So men should also be tested.
Of course, on the one hand, the church should not engage in such affairs. But on the other hand, it’s a public organization that influences its parishioners. The church is responsible for their future. It’s a dilemma. How you feel about an intimate test and the existing problem in general, it’s your own business.
