Reports claim Ghanaian Police Intelligence Unit have allegedly arrested 44 Nigerians and two Ghanaians at Amanfrom near Weija in the Greater Accra Region. Police suspect the arrested individuals of engaging in cyber fraud and robbery.
The suspects were arrested in a two storey building not far from the End International School. There were 38 males and 8 females aged between 18 and 34.
Items ceased from the suspects include laptops and Wi-Fi modems from different telecom brands which reportedly enabled them to commit their alleged crimes via the internet.

Police are looking to swoop down on internet fraudsters
Briefing the media, Director General in-charge of the unit, Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno said at about 6:00 am on Friday, May 11, 2018, police invaded the premises of the storey building.
COP Yohuno said that the building was occupied solely by these people. The suspicion is that they are an organized crime gang. The commissioner believes that this might be an indication of elaborate crimes.
The suspects said in interrogation that they were students in Ghana. However, they could not get simple facts like names of their schools and courses of study right, this heightened the suspicions of the police.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects have been living in the country for close to two years. They were recruited by their bosses to engage in cyber fraud and other criminal activities.
The commissioner said some victims of robberies had also been invited to assist in screening the suspects. Expectations are that convictions will follow after that process.
He also said that the assistance of the Ghana Immigration Service would be sought. This would be for the reason of finding those who have overstayed or entered the country illegally and deport them.
Recently, some Nigerian celebrities spoke against the growing number of "yahoo yahoo" boys in the country after Noble Igwe revealed money laundering businesses in the Lekki area of Lagos.
