An assassination case involving the chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Taofiq Isa, and four others, have been struck out by the Kogi state high court on Tuesday, May 15, for want of diligent prosecution.
The trial judge, Fola Ajayi, stated that despite four adjournments, the prosecution was not able to call their witnesses.
In April 2017, Senator Dino Melaye approached the court and alleged that an assassination attempt on his life by Taofiq Isa and four others, Punch reports.
NAIJ.com notes that others standing trial alongside Isa are: Ade Obege, Abdullahi Isah, Michael Bamidele and Ahmed Ajayi.

Ajayi gave a consequential order for the prosecution to start their case afresh whenever they are ready.
Zakari Abbas, who spoke on behalf of the counsels, commended the judge for the landmark judgment.
He said: “Hence, the charge brought against the defendants have been struck out. As it stands, there is no criminal charges against the defendants.
“However, he gave a consequential order that whenever they are ready with their witnesses, they could approach the court to start their case afresh.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the federal government dragged Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West Senatorial district, to court and charged him with giving false information about an assassination attempt on his life to the police in April 2017.
Senator Melaye was accused of falsely incriminating the chief of staff to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state, Edward David, in the said assassination attempt.
