Awujale sends message to President Buhari over security

- Oba Sikiru Adetona condemned the killing of innocent Nigerians by bandits

- He called on President Buhari to look into this problem

- The traditional rulers called on politicians to respect their office

Oba Sikiru Adetona who is the Awujale of Ijebuland has sent a message to President Muhammadu Buhari asking him to put an end to the killings occouring in different parts of the country.

Daily Trust reports that the Awujale made the appeal at the second annual Oba Sikiru Adetona 2nd annual Professorial Chair Lecture which too place in Ijebu Ode on Thursday, May 10.

He said: “The killings these days are very worrisome. I will like to appeal to the Federal Government to please provide good security for the people, after all, to secure lives and properties is the fundamental responsibility of government. If you build hospitals, build roads, it is the people who will use it. Therefore, government must do everything to secure the people. Security these days are very crucial.”

The Aujale also called on politicians to carry traditional rulers along in the scheme on things because they are the closest to the people.

He noted that when the colonialist where around, they carried traditional rulers along but current politicians have failed to do same.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force arrested 56 suspected bandits and criminal militias in connection with killings in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna state and Zamfara areas.

The suspects are: Abdullahi Abubakar , 35, gang leader; Halidu Musa, 34, principal suspect; Mohammed Ruwa, 30, principal suspect; Mohammed Sani, 30, principal suspect and Dahiru Yahaya, 38, principal suspect, among others, NAN reports.

NAIJ.com gathers that the Force spokesman, ACP Jimoh Moshood, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, May 11, said that the suspects who were in five groups were also responsible for armed robberies, cattle rustling and dealing in firearms in the areas.
