- House of Representatives has directed NELMCO to sell non-core power assets
- The lower legislative chamber made the resolution during its plenary on Thursday, April 19
- Lawmakers said the sale should be completed to avoid further loss of revenue to the government through theft of scraps
The House of Representatives has asked the Nigerian Electricity Liability Management Company Limited (NELMCO) to as a matter of urgency complete the sale of non-core power assets.
Daily Trust reports that the lawmakers on Thursday, April 19, said the sale should be completed to avoid further loss of revenue to the government through theft of scraps and overtime cargoes as reported lately.

NAIJ.com gathered that the House, while adopting the report of its committee on power chaired by Dan Asuquo (PDP, C/River), said NELMCO, which is saddled with the responsibility of administering the non-core assets of the defunct PHCN, should ensure re-certification and perfection of the title documents relating to the non-core assets.
Also, the lawmakers said NELMCO should re-evaluate the non-core assets with a view to obtaining a true value of the assets.
The House said NELMCO should appoint an auctioneer for the sale of PHCN scraps and obsolete items of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), the Port Harcourt Distribution Company (PHEDC) and other DisCos in the country.
The lawmakers asked the company to not waste time in carrying out the resolutions.
It was reported that the House had last year asked the company to suspend further sale of non-core power assets until an investigation into the matter was concluded.

The report that was considered yesterday was the outcome of the investigation that the House ordered into the matter.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had previously reported that reprieve may soon come the way of electricity consumers as a House of Representatives ad-hoc committee is planning to check excessive electricity charges being levied on consumers by distribution companies (Discos) in the country.
