2019: Group calls on president Buhari to allow younger generation take over

- President Muhammadu Buhari has been called upon to drop his 2019 re-election bid

- The call was made from youths from the 19 northern states under the umbrella of Nigeria Youth Forum

- The group, which is working for the presidential aspiration of Senator Ahmed Makarfi, called on the president to allow the senator come on stage

Youths from the 19 northern states under the aegis of Nigeria Youth Forum (NYF) on Monday, April 9 called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reconsider contesting for second term and allow the younger generation to take Nigeria to the Promised Land.

The group, which made this call in Abuja during a courtesy visit to the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), said that the only thing that President Buhari has is integrity, but added that “integrity alone cannot take Nigeria to the Promised Land in this age”, Leadership reports.

NAIJ.com notes that the group spoke through the team leader of the project, Bobai Matthew Victor, who disclosed that it is working for the presidential aspiration of Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

“This current administration of Muhammadu Buhari is all about integrity, that is the only thing it has to offer and integrity alone cannot take us to the Promised Land.”

Speaking on Makarfi, he said: “His achievements in this state, has shown what he can do and we are asking the chapel to partner with us, because your job changes the society. We have a dream and we believe you can assist us achieve that dream."

On his part, chairman of the project, Hon Gideon Goma Adawa said: “We believe Makarfi if given the opportunity will make Nigeria proud, we are hoping to take our dreams to the next level and we are hoping to grow a Nigeria of our dreams. We are counting on you guys to assist us, because we believe all of us will benefit from his wealth of experience.

“Makarfi will tackle the quantum of challenges in the country, herdsmen, Boko Haram and the killings will be a thing of the past.

“We are calling on Buhari’s friends to advice him to rest in 2019 and allow his younger brother to come on stage."

Responding to the visiting team, the chairman of Correspondent Chapel, Midat Joseph said that the chapel is always ready to partner with people that have the interest of Nigeria at heart.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari announced that he would seek re-election in the 2019 presidential election.

The development was made public by the president's personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmed.

Ahmad took to Twitter to announce the development on Monday, April 9. He further disclosed that the president made the announcement during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
