Ministers in Nigeria: all the facts about them
These people deal with the important decisions and determine Nigeria’s future every day. They have been in office since 2015 when Muhammadu Buhari was elected as Nigerian President.
There are currently 24 Nigerian ministers in Buhari cabinet. Since there are 36 states in Nigeria and each state has to be represented by at least one member, there are also ministers of State, who work as assistants to the Ministers.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development – Audu Innocent Ogbeh
This agriculture specialist was born in Benue State in 1947. His father was a farmer and his mother had a trade business, he also is a published author of the plays, whose works are played on stage. The Minister of State who accompanies him is Heineken Lokpobiri.

Minister of Budget and National Planning – Udoma Udo Udoma
This minister comes from Akwa-Ibom State, he has a bachelor degree in Law and jurisprudence, and has completed the education at Nigerian Law School. His Minister of State is Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, from Kaduna State.

Minister of Communication – Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu
The current Communication minister was born in Oyo State in 1953. This minister was the youngest Honorable Member of the Assembly House in Oyo State. Like his colleagues, he was sworn into the office in 2015.

Minister of Defence – Mansur Muhammad Dan Ali
The former Brigadier General of Nigerian Army, was born in Zamfara State in 1959, he got his education at different institutions and later took up his career in the Nigerian army, eventually becoming a General. He retired from the army in 2013, starting his political career.

Minister of Education – Mallam Adamu Adamu
This man was born in 1961 and comes from Bauchi State. He has a bachelor degree in Accounting and a master’s degree in Journalism. He is fluent in many languages – like Hausa, French, Arabic, Persian, and Fulfulde. The Minister of State is Anthony Gozie Onwuka.

Minister of Environment – Ibrahim Usman Jibril
Originally the Minister of Environment was Amina J. Mohammed, who left the office in 2017 to take a position at the United Nations. Ibrahim Usman Jibril was a Minister of State, and he took over her post as a Minister. He was born in 1958 and he's from Nasarawa State.

Minister of Federal Capital Territory – Alhaji Muhammad Musa Bello
This minister comes from Adamawa State. He has a bachelor and master degree in Banking and Finance. He was a huge activist in public service, banking, and business.

Minister of Finance – Kemi Adeosun
Born in London in 1967, even though she is Nigerian and her parents come from Ogun State, she was educated in London, and later she started working at different financial companies.

Minister of Foreign Affairs – Geoffrey Jideofor Kwusike Onyeama
The current Minister of Foreign Affairs was born in 1956, and his native state is Enugu State. His father was a jurist. He holds a master’s degree in Law, which he received in London. He worked at the Supreme Court of Nigeria and many political and judicial organizations. He has an assistant, Minister of State Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim, who was born in Kaduna State in 1967.

Minister of Health – Isaac Folorunso Adewole
Professor Isaac Adewole was born in Osun State in 1954. Aside being a Minister, he is also a professor in gynecology and obstetrics, and respected health advocator. He has received a lot of awards for his prominent work in the field of health. He also has a fellow Minister of State by his side, Doctor Osagie Ehanire, who was born in 1946 in Edo State.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment – Okechukwu Enyinna Enelamah
The Minister of Industry in Nigeria is currently Doctor Okechukwu Enyinna Enelamah, who was born in 1964. He is a specialist in Business Administration and worked as an accounting consultant. The Minister of State is Aisha Abubakar from Sokoto State.

Minister of Information and Culture – Lai Mohammed
He worked as a businessman and chairman in a few large Nigerian companies and also has worked as a Public Relations Officer for ten years. He also has a past in politics. Currently, he serves as a Minister of Information and Culture in the Nigerian Senate.

Minister of Interior – Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau
This activist is from Kaduna State and was born in 1954. Previously, he was a Lieutenant General of Nigerian Army, until he retired from this position.

Minister of Justice – Abubakar Malami
Minister of Justice of Nigeria, as well as Attorney-General, since 2015. He was born in 1967 and comes from Kebbi State. He studied Law and worked in different capacities, which included counseling and magistrate position in his native state. He is also a Nigerian Senior Advocate. He is the youngest minister in Buhari's cabinet.

Minister of Labour and Employment – Chris Nwabueze Ngige
This minister was born in 1952. He is aformer governor of Anambra State and a member of APC. He was also a Senator of Anambra. In 2015, he was named Minister of Labour and Employment. His partner in the office is the Minister of State Stephen Ocheni, who was born in 1959 in Kogi State. This man became the Minister of State after his predecessor, James Enojo Ocholi, passed away in 2017.

Minister of Niger Delta – Usani Uguru Usani
The minister of Niger Delta, who was appointed to this position in 2015, was born in Cross River State in 1961. He is a geographer, environmentalist, and businessman by profession. He is also a pastor. He used to be a Cross River State Chairman of APC. The Minister of State is Claudius Omoleye Daramola, who is a professor. He was born in 1949 in Ondo State.

Minister of Petroleum – Muhammadu Buhari
The Nigerian President has one more position in office, he is also the Minister of Petroleum. He has a Minister of State who helps him in this position – Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, who was born in 1956 in Delta State.

Minister of Power, Works and Housing – Babatunde Raji Fashola
The current minister of Power was born in 1963 in Lagos State. He is a specialist in Law, he is also a Senior Advocate and a former Governor of Lagos State. His ministry has two Ministers of State, Mustapha Baba Shehuri from Borno State and Suleiman Hassan from Gombe State.

Minister of Science and Technology – Ogbonnaya Onu
Ogbonnaya Onu is a Doctor of Philosophy and a huge specialist in chemical engineering. He was born in Ebonyi State in 1951. He used to be a Governor of Abia State.

Minister of Solid Minerals – John Kayode Fayemi
Born in Ekiti State in 1965, John Kayode Fayemi was a governor of his native state for four years. He has been involved a lot in political and academic initiatives. For example, he is a respected lecturer and he held lectures not only in Africa but on the other continents as well. He was a leader of many social projects and has written multiple books on African development and politics. He has a Minister of State, Bawa Bwari Abubakar from Niger State.

Minister of Transportation – Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi
He was born in 1965 in Rivers State, for eight years, he was a speaker in Rivers State’s House of Assembly. He also was a state governor for another eight years. He works along with the Minister of State for Aviation Hadi Sirika, who comes from Katsina State and was born in 1964. There is no Minister of State for Transportation in Nigeria.

Minister of Water Resources – Suleiman Hussein Adamu
The Minister of Water Resources in Nigeria is from Kaduna State, is a well-known engineer and has nearly thirty years of professional experience.

Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development – Aisha Jummai Alhassan
She was born in 1959 in Taraba State, where she is currently highly respected because of her influence and fondly referred to as “Mama Taraba”. Before becoming a minister, she was a Senator of her native state. Originally she was a part of PDP political party, later migrated to APC. She worked in civil service and business.

Minister of Youth and Sports – Solomon Selcap Dalung
Finally, the Minister of youth was born in 1964 in Sabon Gida, which is situated in the Resettlement Area, currently known as Langtang South Local Government Area. He is a qualified professional in Law. In 2015, he became a minister in Buhari’s Cabinet.
