Breaking: Days after releasing lecturers, Boko Haram launches attack at University of Maiduguri

- The attacker was reportedly killed by security operatives

- No innocent causalities were recorded in the attack

Boko Haram terrorists have launched a deadly attack at the University of Maiduguri.

The attack is coming two weeks after the terrorist group released three lecturers of the institution following months of captivity.

Vanguard reports that a Boko Haram bomber detonated his explosive in the evening on Monday, February 19 near a students’ hostel.

The Cable however reports that a security source said the attack carried out by a 13-year-old terrorist was thwarted.

The source said the terrorist was gunned down before he could unleash mayhem.

He said the explosion heard was as a result of the bomber’s IED exploding.

He said: “The sound you heard was the sound of the IED strapped on the bomber’s body after we shot him down. So far only the bomber died.

“We have already contacted the police EOD team to sanitise the scene and its environ. As it is now, we are on high- level of alert as you know suicide bombers don’t come alone."

It will be recalled that three lecturers of University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and policewomen abducted by Boko Haram the terrorist group in Magumeri and Damboa road, near Maiduguri, Borno state were released.

NAIJ.com gathered that this was made known in a series of tweet on Saturday, February 10, by the senior special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, on his official and verified handle.
