Nyesom Wike, Rivers state governor has paid a visit to Benue state to commiserate with the state over the death of 73 persons killed by people suspected to be herdsmen.

The Rivers governor, in company of Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, visited the graveyard of the dead.

Special assistant to the Rivers state governor, electronic media, Simeon Nwakaudu, disclosed this in a statement on Facebook on Wednesday, February 7.

"In honour of those killed by Bandits earlier this year in Benue State, Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike led a high powered delegation to condole with the government and people of Benue state.

"Governor Wike and Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom led other leaders offer prayers at the graveside of the 73 Benue people murdered in cold blood.

"Governor Wike was accompanied by former Rivers state governor, Sir Celestine Omehia, senator George Sekibo, Senator Olaka Nwogu, former minister of sports, Dr Tammy Danagogo, former minister of Transport, Dr Abiye Sekibo, chairman of greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, Chief Ferdinand Anabrabra, former national president of NBA, Chief Onueze Okocha and former attorneygeneral of Rivers state, Hon Frank Ohwor," the statement read.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that a group, #IstandWithOrtom, told the police public relations officer, Force Headquarters, Jimoh Moshood, to apologise to Benue state governor Samuel Ortom for describing him as a “drowning man”.

Independent reports that the demand is coming at the heels of calls by the Benue state government that it has lost confidence in the ability of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris to carry out his functions without bias.
