There’s little wonder that former Governor of Cross River State Donald Duke has declared his intention to run for the presidency. He claims that this is the right time for him to be elected because of his responsible attitude and has huge plans he has for the country.
Why doesn’t he become a senator first?
As a former head of the Cross River State government, Mr. Duke has all chances of becoming a senator. However, he says it is of no interest to him. Being a responsible and energetic person who does, not just speaks, he is eager for actions. He is not interested in, as he said, sitting down and standing up as a senator to make people listen to a suggestion or a point. He is willing to have more power for his positive changes plan.

Even though there are no upcoming presidential elections right at the present moment, Mr. Donald Duke is ready for the presidential race. He believes that the country needs some positive changes, and these changes are in the young people.

Mr. Duke concentrates on the youth. He is sure that young people are the future of the country. They need to actively participate in the voting instead of complaining and trying to shift the blame for their unsatisfied hopes onto other people. All this means that young people should be educated and trained well to become new leaders of the nation. Even the Calabar carnival established by Donald Duke former governor in his native land was several times aimed at increasing the interest towards education: reading, writing, studying at schools.
Apart from this, yet during his governorship, he has more than once voiced out an idea that one of the main goals of the government in Nigeria should be, feeding all those who need food, the goal of developing the agriculture in order to provide enough supply for all those who are in the hardest need.
Is it all serious?
It looks like the Donald Duke interest for presidency in 2019 is not just words. It’s a serious intention, which he’s planning to fulfill at the suitable moment.
As a governor of the Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke did a lot for his own home city and Nigeria, in general. He’s noted for his contribution to the development of agriculture in his own state and Nigeria as a whole, for the urban and cultural development, as well. The only Calabar Carnival attracts crowds of guests to the city of Calabar every year owing to Mr. Duke’s efforts. During his governorship, Calabar was named the cleanest city in Nigeria and, actually, the heart of tourism.
