The president of the African Development Bank, Akinwunmi Adesina has denied criticising the presidency’s response to Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a 13-paged letter to the president, Obasanjo noted some short-comings in the Buhari administration particularly in the area of the economy.
The former president asked Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019 instead, asking him to contribute his quota from the side-line.
In a statement, however, by Lai Mohammed who is the minister of information, he said the Buhari administration was doing well and cited the growth of the GDP as testament of the administration’s performance.

Adesina however tweeted that the growth of the GDP was not enough and had to translate to better lives of the people.

Following criticism from some Nigerians however, the former minister of agriculture under the Goodluck Jonathan administration claimed he was not referring to any country in his earlier tweet.
Meanwhile, Orji Kalu, a former governor of Abia state, hit back at Obasanjo over his letter to President Buhari criticising his alleged poor handling of the economy and advising against contesting the 2019 presidential election.
NAN reports that Kalu spoke at the Murtala Muhammed Airport 2, Lagos, stating that Obasanjo had no moral right to comment on such national issues.
The former governor added that Buhari’s government may be slow in taking critical decisions, but had done well in tackling corruption.
According to him, Buhari had recorded modest achievements in his two and half years tenure, which necessitates his re-election.
