- Some Nigerians in South Africa are currently victims of arson as their houses and other properties were burnt by some citizens of the country

- The properties were burnt after a woman was declared missing by a man who claimed he was her brother

- The alleged kidnapped woman is said to be receiving treatment at a hospital

Some Nigerians resident in South Africa have reportedly been attacked with houses belonging to three of them burnt in Krugersdorp as members of the community allegedly went on a rampage‚ searching for a woman claimed to have been kidnapped in the area.

The South African police said the incident happened on Thursday‚ January 18.

“While the preliminary SAPS investigation (into the woman’s kidnapping) was under way‚ the community mobilized‚ allegedly fuelled by unsupported social media reports.

“The group then raided two shops and burnt down three houses‚” the Timeslive quoted Sergeant Tshepiso Mashele as saying but adding that no one was injured in the incident.

“The victim of the alleged kidnapping was later‚ at approximately 21:40‚ brought to Kagiso SAPS‚ after she was found near Chief Mogale in Kagiso‚” Mashele reportedly added.

The report said the victim, who was reported missing by a man claiming to be her brother, was given medical treatment.

The man had taken to Facebook and posted a picture of her‚ saying she was last seen coming back from Paardekraal Hospital.

“Last communication with friends and family was that [Wednesday] around 1pm where she said she was being chased by men‚” a part of his post had read.

NAIJ.com earlier reported how the Nigerian Union in South Africa said six guest houses owned by their members were burnt during attacks against Nigerians in Rustenburg, North West Province of South Africa.

Paul Nwanedo, chairman of the union in the Province, told the News Agency of Nigeria on the telephone from Rustenburg, on Thursday, January 11, that the attackers beat a woman and her child.

"These attacks began on Sunday. Four Nigerians are in critical condition in the hospital. We also received a report that the taxi drivers also beat a Nigerian woman and her child.

“We can also confirm that six guest houses belonging to our people were burnt by the drivers," he said.
