- The commissioner for communication and information in Rivers state, Emma Ekah, says Governor Wike should be praised instead of being condemned
- Ekah says the governor has done much to improve security in the state
The government of Rivers state has recently defended Governor Nyesom Wike against Rotimi Amaechi's claims that the governor had a hand in the New Year's killing in the state.
From Channels TV's report, Rotimi Amaechi on Tuesday, January 2, accused the governor of supporting truancy, thus causing the killing of up to 16 persons in Ogba, Egbema in Ndoni local government area of Rivers state.

Amaechi’s comments further deepens the on-going malice between him and Governor Wike.
His comments indicted security agencies in the state.
However, the Rivers state government disregards Amaechi's allegation as false.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Amaechi’s statement is false and an infantile attempt to gain political mileage from the senseless killings of innocent Rivers indigenes,” the commissioner for communication and information, Emma Ekah said.
He further stated:“Over the last few days, there has been a nationwide upsurge of violence, leading to the unfortunate deaths of Nigerians. Is the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi claiming that in all these instances, the governors of the respective states armed the killers?”
In his description of the minister's remark as being a “sad commentary”, the commissioner remarked that instead of condemning and criticising Governor Wike, he should be commended for bravely tackling security issues in the state.

He noted:“For the records, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has funded and equipped security agencies in the state more than any other state governor has done.
“Rather than being commended for the sacrifice, ingrates like Amaechi see nothing in the genuine efforts of a patriotic leader, which Nyesom Ezenwo Wike represents.”
Previously, NAIJ.com reported that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state had announced the dissolution of six councils caretaker committees in the state.
The sudden dissolution was announced in a statement by Kenneth Kobani, the chief press secretary to the governor.
He advised the affected caretaker committee chairmen to handover all council properties to the local government permanent secretaries.
