BREAKING: Gov. Ortom confirms killing of 20 people by herdsmen on New Year day

- Ortom had announced the deployment of military personnel to the state to beef up security after another recent attack

Fulani herdsmen have killed no fewer than 20 people in Benue state, Daily Sun reports.

The attack occurred on New Year day Monday, January 1, 2018.

Daily Sun reports that the state governor Samuel Ortom confirmed the attacks in some communities in Logo and Guma local government areas of Benue on Tuesday, January 2.

The casualty figures were confirmed from hospitals were the victims were rushed to after the attack.

The attack comes just about a week after Governor Ortom announced increased security presence in the middle-belt state.

NAIJ.com had reported that Governor Ortom disclosed that security operatives and troops had been deployed to Odonto in Adim Akpa, a community in Otukpo local council area of Benue state following an attack by suspected herdsmen in the area.

The attack which reportedly occurred on Christmas eve left two people dead and two others wounded.

The governor told the residents of the area to report early signs of threats and assist security agencies with information to enable them to respond promptly to threats of attacks.
