- Senator Shehu Sani says the $1 billion approved for the north-east should be increased by $500 million

- He advocates a double amount for the south-south since this zone provides the fund that keeps Nigeria going

- The senator wants other geo-political zones in the country to be given $1 billion each to tackle their own unique security challenges

A senator on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Shehu Sani, has urged the government to increase its fund to the north-east by $500 million to give a total of $1.5 billion from the Excess Crude Account (ECA).

Senator Sani also urged that each of the remaining five geo-political zones that make up the country should get $1 billion from the ECA to also tackle their own unique security challenges.

Sani’s comment comes as reactions continue to trail the approval of $1 billion from the ECA to tackle insecurity in the north-east as well as other security issues in the zone.

“ECA, my take; North East deserve $1.5 billion. All the geo-political zones should also be given a billion dollar each to tackle their peculiar security or development challenges.

“South South should be given double as the goose that lays the ECA eggs," he said.

However, many Nigerians who reacted opposed his suggestion.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central district recently faulted the federal government’s approval of $1 billion to fight Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast.
