President Ian Khama of Botswana has stated that embattled Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, should give up trying to remain in power, Reuters reports.
Khama noted that Mugabe did not have any regional diplomatic support to remain in power.

NAIJ.com gathers that President Khama expressed optimism that the military intervention in Zimbabwe could put the country on the path to peace and prosperity, after 37 years of Mugabe’s rule.

He further bashed the embattled Zimbabwean president for clinging on to power for so long.
He stated: “I don’t think anyone should be president for that amount of time. We are presidents, we are not monarchs. It’s just common sense.”
Also speaking on the development, Donald Yamamoto, acting U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, dismissed any idea of keeping the embattled president in any sort of interim or ceremonial role.
He stated: “It’s a transition to a new era for Zimbabwe, that’s really what we’re hoping for.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that embattled President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe made his first public appearance since Wednesday, November 15, when the country’s army took over Harare, its capital.
Mugabe, who held a meeting with the army late Thursday, November 16, reportedly appeared in academic gown for a graduation ceremony in Harare.
The 93-year-old slowly marched in a procession to the podium as he was applauded by cheering supporters while declaring open the event.
