Former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra state has confessed to having the wrong choice for successor.
Obi campaigned for and played a major role in the emergence of Willie Obiano, but their relationship went sour along the line.
As Obiano prepares to run for a second term in office, Obi said revealed the circumstances that led to the emergence of Obiano as his successor instead of Oseloka Obaze, who is currently running on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

New Telegraph reports that speaking at a rally in Ezinihite, Aguata Local Government Area of the state, Obi heaped the blame on the former national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, who, he said, rejected three aspirants who were in the race to succeed him.
The three rejected aspirants then were Obaze, Hon Chinedu Idigo and Dr Chike Obidigbo.
The former governor said Umeh disqualified the three aspirants.
“In the interest of peace in our party and continuity, we accepted his decision and started campaigning for Obiano, who came in and did nothing in four years.
“If he had done some work, it would have spoken for him without him making noise about it. Somebody, who didn’t do anything in his first tenure, in his second tenure, he will go to sleep.
“I said it when we were campaigning for Obiano at Nnewi that if Obiano fails to work, I will lead the campaign to oust him and that is what I am doing.
“I don’t have issues with Willie Obiano, he is my friend but I have problem with Governor Willie Obiano. We need to put a person that would work for the benefit of Ndi Anambra.
“That is my interest. Anambra needs capable hands to move the state forward.
“The selling point in politics is work, when you work your work will speak for you. If Obaze works well as governor, people will hail him anywhere he goes the way they hail me now,” he said.
While speaking, Obaze promised to ‘right the wrongs’ created by the current government in the state.

He called Obiano a bargain gone wrong.
He promised further that his government would dedicate 26 percent of the state’s annual budget to education and revive the N5,000 monthly stipend for indigenes who are 75 years and above.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Anambra election, Tony Nwoye, also accused ex-President Goodluck Jonathan of selling him out to Governor Willie Obiano during the state’s 2013 governorship election.
Nwoye made his allegations during an interview session on a Channels TV programme, Politics Today.
