- The reason why governors currently serving under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress want an automatic ticket for President Buhari ahead of 2019, has been revealed

- The governors are reportedly pushing for this in order to enable those of them currently in their first terms, to also receive same

- As at now, it is not yet known if the president would seek reelection, and the party’s National Executive Committee is yet to endorse an automatic ticket for Buhari

Virtually all 24 of the All Progressives Congress (APC) state governors, are committed to ensuring that President Muhammadu Buhari runs for re-election, unchallenged, in 2019, Vanguard reports.

This revelation comes in spite of the fact that the APC National Executive Committee has deferred an informal motion which would endorse an automatic second term ticket for the president.

NAIJ.com gathers that the rationale for the governor’s support for Buhari is that if the president gets an automatic ticket, then those of them currently in their first terms, would also get automatic tickets to re-contest for a second term.

Out of the 24 APC governors, 17 are still in their first terms; only 7 of them are in their second terms.

Those still in their first term are Jibrilla Jindow (Adamawa), Mohammed Abubakar (Bauchi), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Umar Ganduje (Kano), Aminu Masari (Katsina), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), Abubakar Bello (Niger), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Simon Lalong (Plateau), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto) and Abdulazeez Abubakar (Zamfara).

Those who are not on the lookout for an automatic ticket as they are already serving a second term are Ibrahm Geidam (Yobe), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Umaru Al-makura (Nasarawa), Rochas Okorocha (Imo) and Kashim Shettima (Borno).

It is not yet known if the president would decide to stand for reelection; but if he chooses not to do so, he will be the first Nigerian President to opt for a single term.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress as well as the party’s national caucus, passed a vote of confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari, two years and five months into his administration.

The two senior groups also passed a vote of confidence on Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, its national chairman.

However, when the NEC met, it refused to discuss a motion for Buhari’s automatic ticket in 2019.
