Labour leader, 2 others assassinated in Kogi

- Three people have been reportedly killed by unidentified gunmen in Kogi state

- Amongst them is the chairman of the National Association of State University, Abdulmumini Yakubu, and his younger brother

- The killing is coming a day after one other person was killed by unknown gunmen in the same town

Unknown gunmen on Wednesday, November 1, killed Abdulmumini Yakubu, the Kogi state chairman of the National Association of State University (NASU) and his younger brother.

Vanguard reports that the killing took place around 7pm while worshipers were performing ablution for the night’s prayers.

Yakubu and his younger brother from Okene, Kogi Central senatorial district were gunned down while performing the ablution in front of the house of the late state NASU chairman.

The killing is also coming a day after one other person was killed by unknown gunmen in the same town on Tuesday, October 31, a development that has now made residents live in fear.

While some persons alleged that the killing may be political, in view of the fact that the late NASU chairman has been vocal and antagonist to government since the eight week old strike action commenced; the police however said they are still investigating his murder.

The development was said to have made the labour to suspend its negotiations with the state government.

It was learnt that they are presently locked in a marathon emergency meeting in the state capital to come up with a new position.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that the police on Tuesday, October 24, confirmed the killing of two police officers and the abduction of an expatriate by unknown gunmen at a construction site in the state.

Spokesman of the state police command, ASP William Aya, told newsmen in Lokoja that Insp. Ezekiel Negedu and Sgt. Gini John were killed while on guard duty on Obajana – Oshokoshoko – Kabba road.

Aya said that John died on the spot while Negedu died on arrival in hospital.
