The Board of Continental Broadcasting Services Ltd., CBS, owners of Television Continental, TVC, and Radio Continental, has explained the reason behind the recent sack of 145 staff.
According to a statement issued by the television network, the decision was parts of its effort to restructure the company.
The changes are expected to reconfigure the company's workforce and help them achieve their objectives, Premium Times reported.
“145 people will be affected by today’s announcement,” the statement read.
“We wish to make clear that our core channels consisting of TVC News Nigeria, TVC Entertainment and Radio Continental will now become the main focus of our business going forward where we will deliver high quality news and entertainment programmes to our audiences and advertisers across Nigeria and beyond.
“The winding down of TVC News Africa will allow us concentrate on these key areas of our business.”
“For those staff members affected by today’s announcement the Board of CBS Ltd. has approved a generous severance package in addition to a programme of assistance to enable them seek new employment,” it added.
Recall that NAIJ.com earlier reported that popular television station, Television Continental (TVC) has allegedly sacked 145 staff members.
The special assistant to the Governor of Ekiti state on public communications and new media, Lere Olayinka, disclosed this via his twitter handle, @OlayinkaLere.
Television Continental, located at Ikosi, Ketu, Lagos, is owned along with its sister company, Radio Continental by a former governor of Lagos state and national leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

The news was also reported on Facebook by a journalist with The Nation Newspaper, Joke Kujenya, who further disclosed that security is tight around the area at the moment and that affected staff members have received their sack letters.

She wrote: “Tension rises as TVC is on massive retrenchment of staff today, Friday, June 2nd 2017.
"Security is tightened around the vicinity as Police and fierce-looking professional bouncers take strategic positions.
"A media staff confirmed some members of staff have already received their own letters saying the mood is really gloomy.
Let's empathize and be with them in prayers.”
