The federal high court, Abuja, has ordered that the money recovered from the home of Supreme Court judge Justice Sylvester Ngwuta be deposited in the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Presiding judge Justice John Tsoho, on Thursday, May 24, gave the order.
The prosecuting counsel Olufemi Fatunde led the fifth prosecution witness John Otaze, an operative of the State Security Service (SSS) to tender the bags and boxes in evidence.

Court to get money recovered from Justice Ngwuta’s residence

News Agency of Nigeria reports that Otazi told the court that he had led a team of SSS operatives to conduct a search on Ngwuta’s residence.
According to him, the various sums of money in local and foreign currencies that were recovered included N35 million, £35, 915; $319,096; 50 South African rands, €280, 000, 380 Dirhams and 420 Dalases.
Meanwhile, Tsoho adjourned the matter until May 26 for cross examination of the witness.
Ngwuta is facing a 12-count charge bordering on money laundering, retention and concealment of various sums of money in local and foreign currencies.

Ngwuta was charged with giving various sums of money above the statutory threshold to his building contractor for the building of various houses without going through a financial institution.
NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Justice Sylvester's trial at the federal high court sitting in Abuja was adjourned till May 24 and 25, 2017.
Justice John Tsoho adjourned the case after he was informed by the prosecutor that there would be a delay in the arrival of the evidence gathered.
The evidence was gathered during the search of Justice Ngwuta’s residence on October 7, 2016.
