The attorney representing Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, has told the state’s High court sitting in Gezawa on Wednesdays that the incessant threat by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest him has resulted to being throttled in his Abuja residence.

Addressing the court on the expert motion filed to restrain the anti-corruption agency from arresting the erstwhile governor, Barrister Okechukwu Eze explained that the move by commission if executed would deny his client fundamental rights.
The lawyer further said that Kwankwaso who is now a senator representing Kano central has been in his house over the threat of arrest by the EFCC and has been denied the liberty to perform his legislative duties as mandated by voters of his constituency.
In his claim before the court, the attorney said that the commission’s action emanated from a petition by an unregistered association that has no written address. He revealed that he was in court to halt the likely ‘anticipation of violation’ of his client right.
He further stressed that “we have expressive fear that Kwankwaso’s right to liberty, freedom of movement as guaranteed under the constitution is likely to be violated by EFCC”.
Eze argued before the court that his client has not violated pension laws to warrant his invitation by the crimes commission, emphasizing that Kwankwaso deserved applause for bringing surplus to the pension fund in the state while he was a governor.

After exhausting his points, the lawyer entreated the court to hold the commission back from the new senator further imploring the court that the way things were should be maintained pending the decisions of the suit.
According to Vanguard reports, Eze pleaded with the court to grant his prayers on the ground that the “injunction would be used as a shield and not as a sword”.
Meanwhile, the presiding Judge, Justice Mohammed Yahaya has reserved rulings till Thursday.
Meanwhile, five former governors seem not be enjoying their retirement from office as the crimes agency has beamed its searchlight on their activities when they were state chief executives.
