Tragedy struck today in Pakistan as an army helicopter crashed during an emergency landing killing seven people including the Philippine and Norwegian ambassadors, BBC reports.

According to the Hindustan times, terrorist group, the Taliban, claimed it shot down the aircraft hoping to assassinate the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif.
The wives of the Indonesian and Malaysian envoys, two pilots and a crew member also died. They were to attend the opening of a tourism project.
Euro news reports that Sharif was travelling to the region on a separate aircraft to launch two projects when the accident happened.

Polish ambassador Andrzej Ananiczolish and Dutch envoy Marcel de Vink were reportedly among those injured.
Pakistani security agencies have been engaged in a fierce battle with the terrorists in the region for the past several years. Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, said initial reports suggest it was an accident.
There have been a number of crashes involving the same model of military helicopter in Pakistan in recent years.
