The national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has warned against alleged plots by the presidency and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to intimidate the federal legislature.
Secondus gave the warning in a statement by his media adviser, Ike Abonyi, on Monday, June 10, in which he accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the APC of direct involvement in the election of principal officers of the ninth National Assembly, The Nation reports.

Legit.ng gathers the national chairman of the opposition party said that the doctrine of the separation of powers must be respected and guided to avoid dictatorship.
Secondus said the PDP alleged that the presidency and the APC have concluded plans to use intimidation and coercion against legislators not ready to do their bidding in the plot to impose a leadership on the lawmakers.
He said: “Indications are clearly showing that full blown dictatorship is brewing in our country.
“When a supposed democratic government brazenly muscles all the other arms of government, the legislature, the Judiciary and even the press, the fourth estate of the realm, we should be worried at what is loading in our polity."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that an advocacy group, South East Equity Alliance (SEA), said people from the geopolitical zone deserve to be in leadership positions in the ninth National Assembly.
Amaechi Nwoha, SEA’s director, Contact and Mobilisation, made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday, June 10.
He said it would be grossly unfair for the southeastern part of the country not to hold a prominent position in any of the three arms of government.
He urged National Assembly members-elect to be guided by their conscience and the spirit of national unity in selecting their leadership.

Nwoha said: “As you choose your leadership tomorrow, the South-East demands either, the Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker or the Deputy Speaker of the House of representatives."
