Operation Hadari Daji: Troops on joint operations nab 22 criminals

- Twenty-two criminals have been apprehended in Sokoto state

- The criminals were arrested for various offences ranging from armed robbery and banditry,

Others were arrested for being in possession and trafficking in hard drug and illegal possession of firearms amongst others

Twenty-two criminals have been apprehended in Sokoto by operatives of 8 Division Nigerian Army and sister security agencies in the state.

This is as the increased synergy between the division and other security agencies is yielding positive results in the fight against armed banditry and other forms of criminality in the state.

The criminals were arrested for various offences ranging from armed robbery, banditry, possession and trafficking in hard drug, and illegal possession of firearms amongst others, a statement by sent to Legit.ng by Brigade 1 spokesman, Lieutenant Ayobami Oni-Orisan revealed.

On Tuesday, May 21, a joint patrol team comprising of troops of 8 Division and other security agencies based on credible information conducted a cordon and search operation in Gidan Dere Bypass area.

The team apprehended a suspected drug peddler who in turn, led the troops to the hideout of a notorious drug kingpin at Kofar Kware area of the city. After a diligent search conducted in the premises, the troops discovered 10 laptops and 22 different parcel sizes of substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

Also, based on intelligence report, another cordon and search operation was equally conducted same day at Nakasari Barebare area of the metropolis and this led to the arrest of a suspected drug baron.

On Sunday, May 19, a joint patrol team on patrol in Sokoto metropolis, busted a notorious armed robbery gang led by one Zayyanu aka 'Dankane' which hitherto terrorised residents of Sokoto township and environs.

Similarly on Monday, May 20, another joint patrol team, while on routine patrol in Sokoto town arrested 6 suspected robbers with assorted weapons and other illegal substances like knives. cutlasses, Indian hemp, sim cards, assorted charms and various keys.

In a similar vein, a patrol team along Gusau -Sokoto road intercepted highly suspicious illegal aliens in a Toyota Avensis car conveying 8 Cameroonian nationals on their way to Niger Republic via Ilela border. The individuals were without any valid identification and could not explain their mission in the area.

All the criminals have since been handed over to the civil police for prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Commander 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Linus Udeagbala has reiterated his commitment to ensuring effective inter-agency collaboration and cordial civil-military relations with all civil and paramilitary organizations.

This, he said, is necessary in order to checkmate the security challenges within the Brigade's area of responsibility.

The Commander stated this recently while receiving the newly posted Director, State Security Service (SSS), Zamfara state command and the state coordinator, Defence Health Maintenance Limited (DHML) during their separate courtesy visits to the Brigade.
